Durozier Black Retouching Varnish is a liquid etching ground designed for retouching plates after they have been removed from the acid bath.
The Retouching Varnish should always be applied to the surface in thin layers with a brush. It is designed for use as a stop out ground during aquatint.
After drying, this varnish will start to flake over time. It is advised to use it as soon as it is dry.

Under andra halvan av 1800-talet utvecklade sig konstgrafik till en fullskalig rörelse, och konstnärer etablerade begreppet ”målare-grafiker”. Rörelsens centrum, Paris, fick en ny kemist, François Charbonnel, som öppnade en butik nära Ecole des Beaux-Arts och Louvren. Han sålde egna formuleringar av färger och grunder, vilket gjorde hans butik till en mötesplats för tidens ledande konstnärer. Charbonnel förbättrade kontinuerligt sina produkter genom att ta till sig feedback och inkorporera kemiska framsteg.
